In elaborately designed vellum with gilt and blue borders and letters in blue on front cover and same on spine. Gilt top edges. Square and intact bindings, except for Volume II which has cracked front and rear hinges. with split edge on spine., which someone tried to repair with tape. All illustrations have tissue guards. Moderate shelf wear. Photos upon request. . Hardcover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
Synopsis
Romola (1862–63) is a historical novel by George Eliot set in the fifteenth century, and is "a deep study of life in the city of Florence from an intellectual, artistic, religious, and social point of view". It first appeared in fourteen parts published in Cornhill Magazine from July 1862 (vol. 6, no. 31) to August 1863 (vol. 8, no. 44).
