Hodder & Stoughton. London. No date. (1924). NEW EDITION. Small 4to. (9.6 x 6.7 inches). Fully illustrated throughout with 16 tipped in colour plates, pictorial title page, plus 25 full page and 100 smaller line drawings. A hint of browning to the blank endpapers but generally a very clean and bright copy in the original publishers yellow cloth binding with illustration to the front board in red and black. The spine and front board are lettered in black. A little darkening to spine but overall a better than very good copy of this beautiful book. --- Originally published by Constable and Co in 1912, this is the first Hodder and Stoughton edition and it contains all of the illustrations from the earlier edition. Marbled endpapers. Top edge gilt. A fine pretty binding on this beautiful book. There was also a large paper, limited edition of this edition.:

Jonathan Cape. London. 1972. FIRST EDITION. Large 8vo. (10 x 7.4 inches). 64pp. Illustrated with 182 illustrations, printed in various colours, by Earnshaw, a master of surrealism. Full black cloth binding with gilt lettering to the spine and front board. Fine copy in the red and black printed dustwrapper which is fine. ---- The rare hard cover of this important work. The book was issued in hard and soft cover with this variant being by far the hardest to find. A remarkable book full of Earnshaw's surreal, humorous and dark illustrations. A contemporary review of the book from the Times educational Supplement perhaps sums it up best; "It is fair to say that the author explores a landscape which suggests Magritte and Monty Python. The humour is austere, bleak and if not black, at least charcoal grey. As a feat of imagination the work is outstanding.".

Blackie and Son, Limited. London. - No date. Circa 1910. REPRINT of 1903 edition, with 5 extra full colour plates. Large 8vo. (10 x 7.7 inches). Illustrated with 16 full page colour plates, 6 full colour and 10 printed in orange, black and grey, plus several hundred fine line drawings, many within the text and a few printed in red and black. A very good copy in publishers paper covered boards with colour illustration mounted to front cover within a printed border, below black lettering. Grey cloth spine with lettering and decoration in black. Some rubbing to the corners and a little fraying to the cloth but overall a very good copy of this beautifully illustrated book.

Macmillan and Co. Ltd. London. 1895. FIRST BROCK EDITION. 8vo. Fully illustrated throughout with 40 fine drawings by Brock, most full page. A very good copy in the publishers delux binding of highly decorative dark blue cloth binding with gilt lettering and illustration by Albert Angus Turbayne to front board and spine. Yellow peacock design on white endpapers. All edges gilt. Spine just a little dulled but overall a very good copy of this scarce beautifully illustrated book.

Limited Editions Club. New York. 1971. LIMITED EDITION. Large 8vo. (10 x 7 inches). One of 1500 hand numbered copies, signed by both Edward Ardizzone and Joseph Blumenthal, who designed and printed the book. 16 full page colour plates plus 18 mono illustrations used as head pieces to each chapter and title page. Fine copy in original half black cloth binding with gilt lettering and ruled lines to spine. Marbled paper on boards. Housed in the original marbled paper covered slip-case with printed paper label on spine. Slip-case with some rubbing and chipping to edges but has done its job and kept the book in fine condition. A superb copy of this lovely book.
