An attractive issuance of the famed poem by the Persian astonomer-poet, consisting of the first and fourth renderings into English by Edward FitzGerald. Includes color and black & white illustrations by Willy Pogány; the color illustrations are tipped onto the pale yellow leaves. With an introduction by George Saintsbury. --- In full gold cloth-covered boards with elaborate gilt decorations and titling to cover and spine; top edge gilt. Volume wrapped in lustrous gold jacket. --- Undated, but possibly published c.1930s-40s. A group of people have signed their names in ink to the verso of title page, some pages improperly opened (leaving jagged edges) and with slight soiling to endpapers & covers; else a sound, firmly-bound copy. Price-clipped jacket with small tears and a little chafing to extremities; otherwise very bright and in removable archival mylar protector. Overall, an exceptional copy of this treasured work. ; Octavo (8 to 9 in. tall); 173 pages .
