A ten-volume set of the works of Rudyard Kipling. Not ALL the works, by any means, but a nice representative sample. This is identified as the de Luxe Edition and is part of a limited, numbered set published about 1910 for sale in America. This is #590 of 1,000 (see photo #10). The books show wear at many corners and the top and bottom of the spine, to varying degrees. Gilt top page edges. Books of this age often develop hinge splits where the glued portions meet the stitched body. While these can occur in the front or rear, the front is more common, due to the way people normally hold books. Only three of these volumes have developed a mild split, all in front, near the title page. In a few volumes some of the lower edges of some pages have not been separated (see photo #12). Garden City: Doubleday, Page and Co., 1925. The Mandalay Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 6 x 9 in. Finely bound in half deep blue morocco with blue cloth boards. Raised spine bands, gilt spine titles and decorations, gilt upper text block. Incomplete set, a sequential run from Vol. 6 - Vol. 13. Condition is VERY GOOD+ ; the leather is supple and has no cracks or splits, all joints are excellent. Covers very clean except Vols 6,7, 10 and 13, which have some paler discolorations to the cloth only, Vol. 6 also has some pale stains to the leather of the covers, but not the spine. Bindings all tight and text spotless. A very handsome partial set. Fine Bindings, RGR.
