1744 HUGE French Huguenot BIBLE Swiss Osterwald Protestant Double-Page MAPS 2v

An important Osterwald French Bible from 1744! This Bible comes from the French of Protestant Swiss pastor, Jean Frederic Osterwald who was notable for being highly influential among central European Protestants, so much so that he is often called the leader of a 'second reformation'. He is remembered for his innovative dogmatics, exegeses, liturgies, and hymns, but his most important contribution was his translation of the Bible. His translation was extremely thorough and included aspects many different Bibles, seeking to make the most accurate form of scripture. According to Darlow and Moule,

"Osterwald made use of the original Hebrew and Greek, the Septuagint and the Vulgate, and the French hand German version- both Protestant and Roman Catholic. His alterations tend chiefly to modernize the language, but they sometimes also affect the sense." (D&M 3814)

This 1744 annotated Holy Bible includes both the Old and New Testaments along with the Apocrypha. And while the exegetical commentary is important, the exquisite double-page maps are particularly impressive!
