Thomas, No. 55, Maiden Lane, New York; Part VI Published Haly and Thomas. J. Maxwell, Printer, 1819. First edition. Wraps. Very good. Printed, untrimmed, stitched wraps. Approx. 6.25" x 4". Three parts: No. IV: pages 141 - 180; No. V. pages 181 - 216 (end of volume 1); No. VI Vol. II: [1], 42 pages, [1]. The right front flyleaf's for each part present. Original publisher wraps with the printed titles on the front covers and publisher advertisements on the rear wraps. Toning to the covers and light toning to the contents. Light chipping to the paper spines. The rear cover of No. VI has light scuffing. Overall these early issues are in very good condition. Salmagundi, a satirical periodical, was first published in 20 numbers from 1807 to 1808 with moderate success. Washington Irving, the creator of the periodical along with his older brother and James Kirk Paulding, discontinued the publication after payment disputes with the publisher David Longworth. In 1819 the series was revived by Paulding who wrote all the contents. The second series lasted for 15 numbers. Numbers XIV and XV are very scarce.
