Overall, a clean and sturdy copy. Salut au Monde! is a poem that was first published in the second edition of Leaves of Grass (1856) as one of the twenty new poems not included in the first edition of 1855. A joyous ode to the world, this poem is indicative of Whitman's early optimism, as well as his affinities for natural beauty and international comradery. Notably, this edition of Salut au Monde includes linoleum cuts by Czech illustrator, typographer, and printer Vojt?ch Preissig. A formative figure in early 20th century Czech graphic design, Preissig is celebrated not only for his contributions to art but also for his resistance to the Nazis, which led to his death at Dachau in 1944.. Illus. by Preissig, Vojtech. Signed by Illustrator. Limited.. Hard Cover. Near Fine.
