He studied philosophy and theology and wrote works that focused on heresy and prayer. He also wrote on church history, sacred rites, hymns and dogmas, Muslim theology, and even a work on dragons and ghosts! Many of the works of John of Damascus were initially recorded by John of Jerusalem and his work is still referenced today on the life of John of Damascus.
