About This Item

New York; (1947): Rinehart & Co, 1947. First Edition. Octavo. 343 pages. Inscribed by the author "For Joe Sistrom's wife collection of books that he works on, Frederic Wakeman". Joe Sistrom was a major Hollywood Producer who was involved with a number of films. The movie "The Saxon Charm" starred Robert Montgomery, Susan Hayward, and John Payne. One fascinating account of Joe Sistrom is Billy Wilder called Joe but his office phone was not answered. It turned out the secretary was curled up on the office couch reading "Double Indemnity" which they then both read and convinced Paramount to buy it. Joe's wife was the book collector; however, and when they agreed not to reconcile in 1951, she got to keep the books. Joe left Paramount after a dispute and did not work again until doing the screen writing with Abe Burroughs for: The Solid Gold Cadillac' (1956). Bound in black clothspine lettered and decorated in yellow and red, corners bumped, in edge worn and chipped dust jacket. Book stamped on free endpaper "Property of Universal International
