S.C.A.B.: Society for the Complete Annihilation of Breeding. No. 1 (n.d.)

  • Used
The first issue (of a likely 2 total published), 8 pp., of the somewhat tongue-in-cheek Queercore hate zine, under the editorial direction of filmmaker Johnny Noxzema (John Richard Allen), targeting heterosexism, straight people, and "mainstream" gays and lesbians, and attacking the heteronormative American nuclear family. Illustrated throughout with drawings, collages, and reproductions from photographs. Photomechanically reproduced. Some very mild wear and toning. Tall 8vo. Original illustrated stapled blue paper wrpps. Toronto (Kill the Whites/Bimbox) n.d. (1990). A play on Valerie Solanas's 1967 feminist classic zine, S.C.U.M. (Society for Cutting Up Men), S.C.A.B. lays out their intent clearly in hateful, violent language: "Our goal? The absolute obliteration of what is generally regarded as the American nuclear family. Our method? Violence, pornography, abortions, castration, mindless sex, mass murder, and the widespread destruction of private and state property." In the October 1991 issue of Maximum Rock 'n' Roll, reviewer K.O. called S.C.A.B. "the most hateful thing I've ever seen in my life." The final page contains the words, "Kill a man and you impress a few people who already believe anyway. Kill a multitude and you can convince a nation." Scarce; as of February 2019, WorldCat locates three holdings in North American libraries.
