London: Churchill, 1861. Second edition. Hardcover. Fair. The standard work on first aid at sea, written by the naval surgeon Thomas Spencer Wells and first published in 1851. It contains a scale of medicines for a government medicine chest which all ships were required to carry, and also advice on how to maintain the health of crew members.

16mo, lacking early leaves to xvi, pp 1 - 212, illustrations. Flexible plum cloth covers, front cover detached, spine very rubbed.
