Image measures 30.5" x 21.5".<br/><br/> Includes inset "The Shetland Islands with the Continuation of the Orkney Islands on a Reduced scale". In good condition. James Wyld Senior (1790-1836) was a distinguished British mapmaker known for producing maps and globes. He served as Geographer to George IV and William IV. He was a founding member of the Royal Geographical Society and introduced lithography techniques to his production. Hew made a giant globe exhibited in Leicester Square between 1851 and 1862. The globe, sixty feet high and lighted with gas, was at that point the largest ever constructed. His son James Wyld Junior ( 1812-1887) was the official geographer to Queen Victoria.<br/><br/>
