About This Item
William Mackenzie, London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, 1875?. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 872 pages (complete). A stout, sturdy copy of this book that would not look out of place in spirit and reality, on an alter. Please note that the worthies are Calvinist sayers, preachers, heavyweights. So no Robert Burns for example! Full leather. The boards are scuffed, worn a little about the edges and seams. Whilst the leather responds well to wax, the leathers are a little dulled and solemn. The spine has five ridges, some shelving wear, some handling rubbing, some scuffing, some aging. It is flexible and fit. Marbled end papers. The papertrims are generously gilded (agleam). The inside front pastedown has a leather patch / plate showing indication of previous ownership by a Daniel Carney. The contents are very mildly aged. There are handling, aging marks about. The folded Charter of Covenant is much worn, and is rather tatty (it is secure). In general, and by far, the contents are fresh, clean, bold, very confident, pious, benevolent, pleasing. Please note that due to the weight of the book, should the book need posting outside of South Africa, extra postage charges will be required. fk.
