This is the story of the most successful coach in the NHL who has eight Stanley Cup coaching victories. This book explores the nature of his coaching genius from his days with the Montreal Canadiens in the 1950s to the St. Louis Blues in the 1960s, and finally back to Montreal in the 1970s. This was followed by jobs with the Buffalo Sabres, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Detroit Red Wings. With 30 years in coaching his career is a guided tour of the politics and personalities of the post-expansion game, and a textbook on how to rise, fall, and rise again.
