About This Item
New York: Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1976. First American Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. viii, 94 pp. Yellow-green cloth. With a shamelessly racist typed letter signed dated June 21, 1976 on Farrar, Straus and Giroux stationary by someone at the firm to Drayton Simpson of the publishing firm of Walker & Company: "Drayton, Enclosed is Derek Walcott's SEA GRAPES. It is really quite good for one of his racial genes (rumour has it that he has a ghost writer). I mean to read the book you'd never know that all he does is eat bananas and play the bongos..." Walcott won the Nobel Prize for Poetry in 1992. Near Fine in dust jacket with very light wear at the head of the spine and top corners of the front and back covers else Fine.
