New York: The Century Co., 1895. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. See Notes. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. The Second Jungle Book, Kipling, Rudyard. The Century Co., New York 1895. FIRST AMERICAN EDITION / FIRST PRINTING. Dated 1895 on the title and copyright pages with no additional printings listed. Orange cloth boards with gold lettering. Top edge gold gilt. Original red cloth, blind stamped pineapple tree decorations to the front and rear covers and spine; gilt title and name on cover and spine; top of page edges are gilt; other two edges are rough cut. Black and white illustrations with headpieces decorated by John Lockwood Kipling. General board wear and soiling; spine lean but binding remains sound. An inscription on free front endpaper:"Henry Angus From His Uncle Herbert Xmas 1895". A closed 3cm cut (pg89) outside of text block, a tiny closed tear on outside margin (p249), a few light and small smudge marks. (In 1971, Angus was made an officer of the Order Of Canada).


The Second Jungle Book is a sequel to The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling. First published in 1895, it features five stories about Mowgli and three unrelated stories, all but one set in India, most of which Kipling wrote while living in Vermont. All of the stories were previously published in magazines in 1894-5, often under different titles.
