About This Item

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1992. Appears unread. SIGNED IN FULL by the AUTHOR on the front endpaper ("Best Wishes" and her signature only; NOT personalized to anyone). See photos. Fine condition in a Near Fine dust jacket. The jacket would also be FINE but for just a touch of light rubbing. NO chips. NO tears. NO creases. NOT price clipped ($19.00). Bright, shiny, clean, square, and tight. Sharp corners. NO owner's name or bookplate. NO remainder mark. First printing with "First Edition" so stated on the copyright page and NO indications of any other printing. Captivating memoir of Lear's life and career -- as a New York fashion executive; mother of two daughters; activist; magazine journalist; her loss of personal identity; memory of parental sexual abuse; manic-depressive illness; alcoholism; her husband, the celebrated Hollywood producer Norman Lear, etc. Bound in the original white boards with an off-white cloth spine, stamped in shiny silver. From the Dust Jacket: "Born to an unwed mother in a home for wayward girls, Frances Lear, founding editor-in-chief of LEAR'S magazine, has come to symbolize the success story of the American career woman... In this courageously revealing -- and occasionally shocking -- memoir... she speaks with utter frankness about the darker forces that have shaped her being..." . Signed by the Author. First Printing of the First Edition. Hardcover. Fine condition/Near Fine dust jacket. 193pp.

About About Books

About Books (Genny and Michael Winne, proprietors, formerly of Parsippany, New Jersey) has been selling rare and OP books since 1985. Besides book fairs and mail-order catalogues, long-time collectors and dealers will remember our lengthy For Sale ads in the Antiquarian Bookman and similar magazines. Our inventory of over 40,000 volumes is especially strong in the specialties listed, but contains fine books in a variety of other fields as well. Because most of our books are stored in protective boxes, rather than on shelves, they cannot be viewed as a whole. If you wish to visit us to examine specific titles, please provide 24 hours notice and we will make them available for your inspection. Phone calls to (702) 750-2722 are welcome, but please, only between the hours of 8am and 10pm (west coast time).
