Dated between 1954 and 1968, but they appear to always have been together as a set and do not appear made up. The best set I have ever had with no or virtually no rubbing to the circular gilt embossed raised vignette to the front boards of each volume. The gilt to the spines is also remarkably uniform (volume X1 slightly fainter than the others) 8vo. sized. Churchill's master work bound in twelve volumes rather than seven. Bound in quarter brown leather ( the trade are divided on this issue and some say leatherette and it just may be but I believe it to be leather, though most heron publications (but not exclusively so) are in leatherette) over brown kidron boards. Five slightly raised bands to each spine with gilt embossed titles and a geometric motif elsewhere on the spines. Winston Churchill printed to patterned endpapers. The production - quite 'cold war' in looks. Accompanied by a good number of photographic reproductions in b/w. No inscriptions. All the set are clean and tight - each volume with a yellow ribbon page divider intact. Light spotting to the upper foreedge of volume XII and slightly so to volume XI. Very, very slight and very scattered spotting elsewhere but the set is almost entirely free of it. A slight bump to the head of volume IV and volume X and a very slight bump to the tail of volume V. A very well preserved set that would make a lovely present.
