Ex-Library copy, with expected inserts and inscriptions. Light thumb marking, foxing and tanning to pages. More prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Moderate cracking to gutters and hinges, exposing netting, causing some noticeable looseness to binding but pages remain attached. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild staining, tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has heavier tanning with soft splitting and crushing to ends. Lettering remains bright and clear. Book has a slight forward lean.

Printed in Canada from plates of the London & Toronto: Hodder & Stoughton, 1914, first edition, but without the plates found in that edition. A nice copy of this Alberta novel by Judge Murphy, an activist for women's rights, first female magistrate in the British Empire and one of the "Famous Five". .

First edition of this book by Janey Canuck, an alias for Judge Emily Murphy, the first female judge of the British Empire, an activist for women's rights and one of the Famous Five. Ribbed green cloth cover boards with gilt print on the spine and cover, tree design stamped in black. Some wear/rubbing on the front cover and corner bumping. Previous owner's name on front endpaper. The binding is secure although there are some cracks and a partial crack in the front gutter. Coloured frontispiece and many back & white illustrations. Text block is clean, clear and unmarked. 308 pp
