Marking to boards, a couple of splash marks to rear board. Very slight wear to spine. Printed on pages of various bright colours. Five plates with slight foxing. Yair (Scottish Borders); The Residence of J.A. Pringlle at Nattore (Nattore in Bengal, India, now Bangladesh); A Native Hindoo in his Cobble During the Floods at Nattore; J.A. Pringle in his Boat on the Ganges; Ruins of Whitbank Tower. Gift inscription from J.A. Pringle's youngest sister Margaret Janet Elmsley (nee Pringle): 'To L.C. Philpot. With affectionate love from Margaret Elmsley, March 25th 1854. Will you accept as a small remembrance of me, of these 'select remains of my brother, whose mountain muse is (?) in them from the rich(?) humour of joyous youth, to the 'Songs in the night' of his deep sorrow - a sorrow that heaved(?) him from time and prepared him for a very sudden call - from all 'here' to the happy 'there'. She has also added a note to the engraving of Yair 'My Scottish Home. M.E.'; A margin note to page 39 about the origin of the poem; and a note to the final page giving J.A. Pringle's date of death. A scarce item, especially with the family provenance. Overall condition is Very Good Minus. International postage will be less than the stated rate.
