In the original dark brown embossed, bevel-edged leather with four rondels to front and rear with images inside and blind stamped surrounding decoration; five raised horizontal bands to spine. The boards are straight and clean; quite tight, with top front board a little loose. Very good minus condition. Spine ends and corners are worn; tiny tear to leather from top end of spine. Small quarto. 668pp. Gutter cracked, owner name on front endpapers crossed-out with crayon, pages lightly age-toned with thin tideline on top edges of the first few pages, cloth soiled, spine ends and corners chipped and frayed, an about very good copy. A hefty tome in full brown leather with bevelled edges, decorative gilt borders and spine sections, and design in blind in the center of the front and back covers. All edges gilt, coated yellow endpapers, portrait frontispiece with tissue-guard, printed on double-column and with page borders, 100 drawings on wood and 20 drawings in chromo-lithography. The covers are a bit scuffed, the inner hinges cracked, and a handsome gift inscription dated Xmas 1866. The book is solid and internally clean. Contributors include George Cheever, James Montgomery.
