External page edges rather grubby (especially top edges), some spotting to fore edges, just a little spotting to some pages. Gift inscription to front free end paper, and previous owner's bookplate with name, showing a rather loopy-looking owl, caption 'Sapientia Soror Mea'.

Moderate crinkling to paper at gutter. Pages and illustrations are heavily tanned and foxed with visible markings throughout. Binding remains firm. Heavier tanning to free endpapers. Pencil markings to front free endpaper. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Slight crushing to spine ends. Gilt lettering is darkened. Moderate sunning to spine and edges. Visible wear marks to boards. Book has a slight forward lean.
