176 pages. Small octavo (7 1/2" x 5") bound in original publisher's red cloth with gilt lettering to spine and blind-stamped title to cover in original jacket. First edition. In the selections from the Journal contained in this book one can see in miniature the world of the eighteenth century, and moving restlessly and purposefully about the length and breath of these islands and beyond, the figure of one of the most amazing men who lived. Condition: Previous owner's name on front end paper, corners bumped. Jacket with closed edge tears, spine ends chipped else very good in like jacket.
