About This Item

London: Chatto & Windus. Very Good. 1961. First UK Edition, First Printing. Hard Cover. 8" x "5.25" A few copies of the first printing of this book were issued with the second gathering of the octavo construction inverted and this is one such copy, perhaps not inappropriate for a book whose narrator has his life turned upside down a few times by the interplay of personal relationships. Previous owner's name on the front free endpaper. Weysprings Books is a Member of: the IOBA and PBFA, and subscribes to the Associations' Codes of Ethics. .

Synopsis

A Severed Head is a satirical, sometimes farcical 1961 novel by Iris Murdoch. Primary themes include marriage, adultery, and incest within a group of civilized and educated people. Set in and around London, it depicts a power struggle between grown-up middle class people who are lucky to be free of real problems. A Severed Head was a harbinger of the Sexual Revolution that was to hit Britain in the 1960s and '70s.
