About This Item

Farrar Straus & Giroux, 1982. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Good. Signed by Author. Book is in excellent condition with sunning of the upper and lower edges of the covers and a shadowing of the dust jacket print on the light paper covers; a weird effect. 1/4 purple cloth at spine with gilt print, author's initials on cover. Binding is solid and square, covers have sharp corners, exterior shows no other blemishes, text/interior is clean and free of marking of any kind. Dust jacket shows sunning also with a 1/2"" tear at top edge of back cover (with portrait of author) and chipping at folds, upper and lower spine. Not price clipped, now wrapped in protective cover. Inscribed on front endpaper with message to buyer ending ""with love, Madeleine, Advent, 1982"": appears to be to a friend or known person. Publisher's page has the words ""First printing"" with date.

A Severed Wasp, is a novel by Madeleine L'Engle. It continues the story of a pianist, Katherine Forrester, who was first seen in The Small Rain. Now a widow in her seventies, Katherine Forrester Vigneras returns to New York City in retirement from concert touring in Europe. There she encounters Felix Bodeway, an old friend from her Greenwich Village days, who is now the retired Episcopal Bishop of New York. He asks Katherine to give a benefit concert at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.
