Condition: See description

Los Angeles.: Geo. H. Shaefer.. No date. Ca. 1935-1940.. Map of Hollywood and Beverly Hills, Los Angeles (blue tone printing with red highlights) on sheet 21 1/2 x 28 inches, folding to pamphlet 11 x 7 inches. Short separation to lower centrefold and tiny tear both outside the image area; short separation at centerfold of map. There is light border toning on verso of unfolded map, not visible on map itself. A highly uncommon map; no WorldCat listing for this item. Map features residential areas (Beverly Hills) north of Sunset Blvd. and south to Pico Blvd. Margins of map provide listings of "Picture Studios" (Warner Bros., Walt Disney, Pickford-Lasky, R.K.O. Radio, etc.) and addresses of more than two dozen "Picture Stars" (Charlie Chaplin, Jean Harlow, Shirley Temple, George Raft, etc.). Bottom edge of unfolded map provides photo images of the extensive departments ("Since 1917") of "Shaefer's House of Authorized Factory Service." A listing of the business's services includes "Locks and Keys," "Radios," "Electrical and Ignition Systems," "Speedometer," and much more. "Phone Gladstone 5151." A smaller map on one folded panel locates Shaefer's in a wider context of central Los Angeles, indicating the convenience of its location. .
