Condition: Very Good

Bantam Books. Very Good. 1986. Paperback. The spine and both covers, next to the spine, are creased from reading. The pages are clean, no tears or soiling. The pages and binding are tight. There is a hole in the glossy paper of the spine next to the front cover that is showing the binding material and a second one that is not as deep near the back cover. The lower right corner of the back cover is scrapped and looks like someone "chewed" on it. The edges of the covers and spine are very slightly scuffed from shelf wear. ; Thick 16mo 6" - 7" tall; 811 pages; FIVE DECADES OF ENCHANTMENT AND ADVENTURE…. Set against the tumultuous background of China in the early twentieth century, this novel traces the fortunes of John Denton, a poor Englishman who arrives in Shanghai in 1903 and carves out a career as a powerful trader. Seductive, splendid, teeming with danger, here is the city of Shanghai -- where Taipans vie for power, where both tradition and barbarism flourish, and where young awestruck John Denton finds incredible wealth and a love that becomes legend.
