The author, Eric Hass, maintains that the Soviet brand of socialism is not socialism at all. Instead, he says, the USSR is an imperialist power bent on domination of other countries. Hass was a Socialist Labor Party stalwart who went on to be the SLP's candidate for president in four elections. CONDITION: Some creasing, soiling and toning to wrappers but internally clean and bright. Very Good.

The recipient, Theodore Weiss (1916-2003), was a poet, literary critic, and professor at Princeton University. A typewritten letter from Schwartz to Weiss is laid in. This collection contains poems that originally appeared in Objects of Thought, Attempts at Speech (Gnosis Press, 1990) and in Exiles-Ends (Red Dust Press, 1990). The poems appear in the original English with side-by-side translation into Chinese by Dr. I-Min Hao. Theodore Weiss was a Princeton professor and, along with his wife, Renée Karol Weiss, the longtime editor and publisher of the legendary Quarterly Review of Literature. A nice literary association. This is the second collection of poems by Alicia Ostriker (b. 1937), who was a professor of English at Rutgers University. Some of the poems deal with pregnancy and motherhood. Besides writing the poems, she also drew the cover image. PHYSICAL DETAILS: Small Quarto (9 x 6 inches; 228 x 151 mm), unpaginated, in stapled, illustrated wrappers (soft cover).
