A novel set in Sac Prairie between 1936 and 1941 of a banker's son who falls in love with a lovely and free-spirited girl from the "wrong side of the tracks," as well as of other characters who appear in Derleth's "Sac Prairie People" poems. First edition (first printing) with Scribners' A on copyright page, but in the later jacket - Derleth bought remaindered titles from Scribner and warehoused them, printing new jackets for a couple of titles in, probably, the 1960s. Hardcover, full black cloth, green titling, gilt stripes. Light wear to book, minor stains; jacket lightly rubbed with a black mark at the base of the spine. Text clean; [8], 511 pages..
