About This Item

New York: Scribners, 1920. Later printing (September 1920). This was the file copy of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Hollywood agent, H.N. Swanson, with his signature, “H.N. Swanson,” on the front free endpaper and extensive pencil notes and scoring by him throughout the text and at the rear endpapers. Hinges skillfully repaired. Very good plus copy with some very minor rubbing to the cloth at the spine and a bare hint of edge wear without dust jacket. Enclosed in a handsome matching clamshell box.

Synopsis

This Side of Paradise is the debut novel of F. Scott Fitzgerald. Published in 1920, and taking its title from a line of the Rupert Brooke poem Tiare Tahiti, the book examines the lives and morality of post-World War I youth. Its protagonist, Amory Blaine, is an attractive Princeton University student who dabbles in literature and has the book's theme of love warped by greed and status-seeking.
