About This Item
Signed by Author. A short typed letter (signed) in blue ink on his engraved Oscar Hammerstein, 2nd letterhead (from 10 East 63 Street, New York City dated July 9, 1957) to Vivian [Ellis] who created more than 60 English stage musicals and was behind many of the popular songs which thrilled listeners before and after WW2. The text is as follows: Vivian Ellis, Esq., 4 Campden Hill Gate London w.8., England Dear Vivian: I have some cuttings that you gave me and I wondered whether you wanted me to mail them back to you or send them down to your agent. Please let me know. The painting is back from the framers and looks very gay and warm hanging in our bed-room. Thank you very much for giving us this pleasant document of your stay at Doylestown. Dorothy joins me in sending love. As ever, Oscar. The letter is still in its original typed envelope (which shows that it was posted on July 11 in New York).
