London : Macmillan and Co. Limited , 1907 A very good copy of the first edition of Silas Marner with Hugh Thomson illustrations. With 24 colour plates, 21 full page black and white illustrations and numerous illustrations and designs in the text. One of the few works illustrated by Thomson to have colour plates. In the original dark green decorative cloth binding with stunning gilt illustration and titles to front board and spine. All page edges gilt. The binding is very bright and clean. There is slight bumping to corners and slight pulling to the spine. The back board has a couple of small light marks near the top corner. The original endpapers are present - these are clean with very slight spotting. Contents: half title; colour frontispiece with tissue guard; title page; illustration list; text in 2 parts with half titles. 2pp list of Hugh Thomson illustrated works at the rear. Contents in very good clean condition.
