Pages are rather marked with pronounced tanning and foxing, plus thumbing. Foxing more intense towards the start and end of the book and on text block edges. pp239-242 detached and intensely foxed, but present. Boards have some moderate edge wear, with slight bumping to corners and minor bumping to spine ends. Boards a little rubbed and marked overall. Spine is noticeably sunned and slightly foxed. Gilt is dulled and worn.

An excellent example (jacket's back panel very lightly toned, hint of rubbing to spine panel), tightly bound and clean throughout. Sackville-West's novels were reviewed politely but made little stir. Simpson: A Life, about a children's nurse, was the best received: "impressive and in its way original, the more so because Simpson has such a cool, aloof quality and so little resembles the conventional Nanny of fact or fiction."
