Binding has remained firm. Boards are a little rub worn, slight shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are a little bumped. Spine ends are mildly crushed. Tanning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed. Book has a forward lean. Water marks to boards and spine.

Pages remain clear with minimal tanning and foxing, mild to end-papers and text-block edges. Minor pencil marking to front free end-paper. Cracking to gutters, no damage to end papers. Binding remains firm. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Mild crushing to spine ends. Book has a slight forward lean. Gilt lettering is bright and clear. Patch of sunning to front board. Unclipped jacket has heavy edge-wear with some areas of loss, heavy tears, chips and creasing. Moderate tanning to spine.

Those claiming this a 1st ed. should refer to p. 2, advertisement to the second edition dated 1786, not to mention p. 178 bibliography, 8th edition 1799!! DJ is soiled and chipped. Binding is VG+, ornately gilt cover & spine on blue cloth. Text is clean and binding is tight.. Hard Cover. Very Good/Poor. Illus. by Wood, Leslie. 8 X 5 1/4.
