Inscribed on a preliminary blank, “To Nathan Bengis, The 1964 winner among Sherlockians on knowledge of the canon...B.R. Kalt/ [additionally signed by] Rex Stout/ Julian Wolff.” Bengis has noted that this was “First prize in the Owen P. Frisbie Memorial Contest Jan. 10, 1964 - Martin Swanson won 2nd prize!” Bengis presented this to another Sherlockian (who added his bookplate inside the front cover) in 1971.
