About This Item

New York: Crosby Gaige, 1928. Rare and Limited edition of 926 copies on handmade paper printed by Bruce Rogers at the press of William Edwin Rudge. The value and collectibility of this volume, unusually lies more with who the printers were than who the authors were. 8vo size red marbled boards; 67 deckle edge pages to this thin volume with decorations at chapters. Joseph Conrad (1857-1924) was a Russian-born Polish English writer. Well respected, well received, he was the author of many novels and short stories. Ford Madox Ford (1873-1939) was an English author who collaborated with Joseph Conrad on three of Conrad's novels. Ford was also a star in the literary firmament. Bruce Rogers (1870–1957) was an American typographer and type designer. Rogers is considered one of best book designers of the last century. All of Rogers works are considered collectible (and were collectible in his own lifetime. It's been said that Rogers never owned a complete copy of his own books, they were that highly sought after.) William Edwin Rudge (1876–1931) was an American printer who worked with such notables as Bruce Rogers and Frederick Goudy (yes, that's Goudy of the typeface.) Rogers designed 80 books for Rudge (obviously including this one.) Rudge's firm was highly respected and won numerous awards. This volume is made from handmade paper and there are unique irregularities to the edges. Several pages were not cut at top and are still firmly attached (you may separate them if you wish.) Edgewear; backstrap missing and some shading to covers. We note a couple of fingermarks on blank fep and there appears to be a chip on the last page, perhaps from separating pages. Booksellers penciled notation on fep. Thanks for shopping with us. 100% of your purchase benefits charity and supports literacy and life-long learning.. Limited. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
