Number 67 of 100 copies with signed, color art by Navajo artist Ernest Franklin on the half-title page. Fine, unread book in a Fine jacket. This copy has been signed by Hillerman on the title page. Many of the signed copies offered of this book were signed on tipped-in front end pages. This was the tenth Chee and Leaphorn novel and Hillerman's next to last Navajo mystery. This is one of two Harper titles (the other being The Shape Shifter) that had the Franklin art version limited to 100 numbered copies. Housed in a Fine, black, Buffalo Medicine slipcase.

Hillerman builds this mystery around the actual collision over the Grand Canyon of a TWA Super Constellation and a United Airlines DC-7 on June 30th, 1956. The crash killed all aboard the two aircraft and one of the passenger's (in this fictional version) was carrying a fortune in diamonds in a briefcase handcuffed to his wrist.

Publisher’s lettered limited edition, Near Fine to Fine book with slight edge crease to middle of a couple pages around p. 150, tiny spot front page edges, and slight push top of spine, in a similar slipcase with slight shelf and edge wear; no dust jacket as issued. This is Hillerman’s completely out of series mystery. The story is about a man’s search for a relative, a missing grandchild,  that takes him into Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. He has taken the liberty of naming the characters based upon his comrades in the 410 Infantry, C Company of WWII.
This is one of the very rare Harper lettered limited editions of which 26 were done for the last three limited titles produced by Harper (i.e., there were only 78 such lettered editions). The lettered limiteds were not for sale but were reserved for private distribution by the publisher and Hillerman. This copy originally belonged to dust jacket artist, Peter Thorpe. First Edition. (1993) Hardcover with d.j. Fine with near fine dust jacket. D.J. has slight curl on top edge and light rubbing on back. No worn edges. Tight binding with clean, sharp pages. No markings. 305 pages. Dolores Claiborne is a psychological thriller novel. The novel is narrated by the title character. Atypically for a King novel, it has no chapters, double-spacing between paragraphs, or other section breaks; thus the text is a single continuous narrative which reads like the transcription of a spoken monologue. This book is dedicated to King's mother: "For my mother, Ruth Pillsbury King."

Description:
Collins White Circle Pocket Edition #228. Great 1940s cover! Colonel Anthony Gethryn must prove a man innocent of a murder he's been convicted for in only 5 days. MacDonald was a great practitioner of the mystery-suspense genre; his books remain readable, even if his characters are nowhere near as enlightened as we tend to be today. Please read this volume in its historical context. A very clean copy, spine slightly darkened with very faint reading crease: see photos.
