Santa Fe: Surveyor General, 1855. unbound. very good. Map. Engraving with modern hand coloring. Image measures 7.25" x 10.75". Charming map of New Mexico from Sonora and Chihuahua to the Arkansas River and the Colorado to the Small Salt Lakes. Illustrates the progress of public surveys, detailing topography, waterways, political boundaries and Native American tribes. Light staining to right margin, a few small tears to left margin.

One uncolored lithographic map (633 x 865 mm.) folded down to 205 x 130 mm.; appears to have been removed from U.S. 34th Congress, 3d Session, 1856, according to OCLC no. 742635439; near fine. Lithographically reproduced signature of Surveyor General Wm. Pelham dated Santa Fe, September 30, 1856. Shows areas of Indian habitation and physical features for New Mexico, along with portions of Indian Territory, Texas, and Utah.
