Litograferet titelblad, 40 pp. tekst samt 30 tonede litograferede plancher med motiver fra de af Galathea besøgte lande. Tekstsider her og der lidt brunplettede. Plancherne friske, bortset fra lidt marginale brunpletter. Litografierne udførte af Tegner & Kittendorff. Thornam var sammen med maleren A. Plum med på Galathea-ekspeditionen som tegner. Foruden videnskabelige tegninger udførte han et stort antal skitser, heraf de 30, som her blev udgivet med tekst af ham selv. "Han besad stor teknisk dygtighed, og havde en vis sans for dramatiske situationer og "de varme landes" romantik kommer til udtryk i billederne fra Galathea-Ekspeditionen" (Weilbach).

Images from the first Danish circumnavigation, which was undertaken for scientific, diplomatic, and commercial purposes. The Danish government handed some property over to the East India Company, flora and fauna were studied and recorded, and relations with other nations, especially China, were explored. Thornam, the expedition naturalist and artist, made many drawings, 30 of which - concentrating mainly on South America, Hawaii, and the Far East - were published here. Borba de Moraes II, p. 862.
