Glasgow: David Bryce & Son, 1900. 384pp. With a frontispiece portrait of the dictionary's influential author, Dr. Samuel Johnson. Until the Oxford English Dictionary was completed, Dr. Johnson's text was considered to be the most authoritative English dictionary. This is one of a number of miniature books published by Bryce using the process of photographic reduction. Bound in gilt-titled limp red roan with "Pears" stamped in gilt on the rear cover; copies of Bryce's dictionary bound in wrappers typically had an advertisement for Pears Soap on the rear cover. About fine, housed in original engraved metal box with magnifier. (Garbett, pp. 25-26; Bondy, p. 106; see Spielmann 464). (1 1/8 by 7/8; 29x22mm).
