Red leatherette over boards with green Smithsonian device on front cover and gilt line and torch decorations on front cover and spine; textblock untrimmed at fore and tail edges; watermarked laid paper. Bright, clean covers and spine; very slightly rubbed at spine head - not split or frayed; lightly dust spotted on text block top edge; tightly bound; notice of set registration to 'John M. Geilenberg' and signed 'Patron's Edition' leaves bound in at prelims; signed by Secretary of the Smithsonian, C.G. Greeley; crisp, clean interior - many leaves unopened at tail edge. Slipcase is green leather-grain paper over boards; sound and clean, lightly scuffed. 8vo, 330 pp; index; many illustrations, tissue-guarded where appropriate.
