New York: Bantam Spectra. Near Fine with No dust jacket as issued. 1992. Advance Review Copy; 1st Printing. Paperback. Uncorrected Proof Copy. This book is in Near Fine condition and was issued thus without a dust jacket. This is a trade paperback. The book was produced in both a hardcover edition of approximately 600 copies and a trade paperback edition of a larger print run. Not only is the hardcover copy of this book a difficult find, but this book became an instant classic in the speculative fiction / cyberpunk sub-genres. The spine ends and corners of the book covers have a bit of light bumping and rubbing. Plain cream colored card stock covers have red gilt lettering to spine and front cover of book. The gilt lettering has started to rub. The front cover of the book has some light ground-in finger dirt and there are two very tiny spots of discoloration. The text pages are clean and bright. The foredge of the text block has one very light spot of discoloration. Stephenson pulls his ideas and themes from all areas: history, cryptography, philosophy, computer programming, religion, archeology, and many more. Snow Crash, while not the first to use Avatar as a computerized golem of a person, did make the term commonplace. He also coined the term Metaverse and indeed, the word Snow Crash. The impact of this book has had both in the science fiction world and in the world of computers cannot be denied. It was nominated for the Arthur C. Clarke award and the British Science Fiction award. "Snow Crash is a vision of the world as it will be: franchines line the street to the horizon, the freeways are privately owned, and the computer-generated universe - virtual reality - is more livable than the real world. But a strange new designer drug called Snow Crash is making zombies of everyone, and a deadly computer virus is striking down hackers everywhere. The last great hope in this post-modern landscape is a new kind of hero: Hiro Protagonist, - Last of the freelance hackers, Greatest swordfighter in the world, Stringer CIA -, - as his business card reads." .
