London: Martin Secker & Warburg Ltd, 1970. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. Fine in Near Fine Dust Wrapper; Some creeping of the plastic on the rear panel of the dust jacket.. 8vo 8" - 9" tall. Black cloth boards with silver titles to spine. Striking silver illustrated dust jacket. KIRKUS REVIEW All right, but no more stories. They always mean something, however much you may pretend that they don't." " And all right, no more Snow Whites, if you have to pretend that you know what they mean when you don't. . . Although she's quite seductive lying there in her glass coffin, escaping pain, refusing to remember, having chosen this "compromise between life and death," " visited--once a week--by Doc (he's saturnine, he's powerful, he's her father--perhaps not, all this role-playing is certainly confusing) and attended by the stunted social cripples who keep watch over her as they make a perpetual journey through an English countryside forever green, forever confined. . . . Miss MacLeod's modish variant version has a hermetic, fastidious, teasing fascination and if the charade which takes place under glass is never crystal clear, it's because it's a suspension from reality, like Snow White's. ; 142 pages.

Description:
Martin Secker & Warburg Ltd, 1970. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. 1st printing 1970 hardback. In very good condition with very good unclipped dust jacket free from nicks and tears. Owners name to inside front paste down otherwise clean, though slightly musty which should clear with time. 141pp 20cm x 13cm approx. Snow White lies in her glass coffin, paralyzed by a poisoned apple, communicating with her attendant dwarves -- Adonis, Buttons, Cato, Discipulus, Eglantine, and Feste -- by blinking her eyes (once for yes, twice for no). She is part of a traveling freak show managed by Doc (who drives a black Mercedes). "[A] spooky little novel...It reads as if Kafka, Beckett, and Ingmar Bergman collaborated on it."
