About This Item

New York: The Macmillan Company, 1912. Wraps. Good. Later printing. Maroon cloth. 377pp., plus ads. A work seeking to counter notions prevalent in the early 20th century regarding the poor and poverty, asserting that economic conditions exacerbate problems for the "submerged class" and that the poor do not like being poor. Nearing also states that contrary to popular belief children are born normal, and that their problems are mostly caused by their economic status and surrounding environment. Scott Nearing was a noted pacifist and radical economist. GOOD condition. Minor scuffing, fading and soiling. Cloth a bit frayed along the extremities. A few pencil tick marks in the contents.
