Paris.. 1836.. Engraving on laid paper, handcolored, image approximately 7 x 4 1/2 inches (plus text area) on sheet 12 x 9 inches. A few faint marks to lower margin, very good condition. An exquisite botanical image by Pancrace Bessa, one of France's foremost botanical artists of the 19th century, engraved by Barrois for "Flore des Jardiniers, Amateurs, et Manufacturiers . . . d'apres les Dessins de Bessa". At lower left in tiny italics are noted the date of flowering (March - May) and the place of origin (Antilles). .
