UK,slim 8vo HB minus dw/dj,1st edn.NFINE.Owner ink surname ,top right-hand corner of front free endpaper.Bright clean,sharp-cornered, publisher's original,very pale green-greyish cloth boards with very slight dulling but no oxidisation - to the stamped gilt letters of spine/ backstrip,plain white endpapers with light off-set foxing from both pastedowns to opposing sides of both free endpapers.Top edges lightly aged/toned with out foxing/spotting,fore-edge similar but with minimal sporadic foxing/spotting; contents bright,tight and clean,solid and sound,no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners - would appear unread - apart from my own collation UK,slim 8vo HB minus dw/dj,1st edn,7-152pp [paginated] includes foreword by Christopher Fry,author's preface,13 chapters; plus [unpaginated] half-title+title pages,and a dedication with Shakespeare epigram (King Richard II,Act V),
Christopher Burney (1917-80),was a member of the SOE,parachuted into France in 1942.On another mission he was captured by the Abwehr,and was held in solitary confinement in Fresnes prison for fifteen months,as he has narrated here,before transferred to Buchenwald (told in The Dungeon Democracy,1946,his controversial account of life in the Buchenwald) concentration camp.
A scarce first edition albeit without dw/dj,that was later republished by Macmillan.
