Forty-Nine Chandos Street, W.C.: Cecil Palmer, 1927. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good binding. Burrage's first collection of horror fiction; he is best remembered for weird tales such as these, and is now known as a classic author of British ghost stories; Bleiler calls him "one of the solid, second-rank writers of supernatural fiction ... who seldom wrote a poor story." According to Barron in his Horror Literature, "Burrage's underrated short stories are deft and subtle, and include a number of poignant posthumous fantasies." Slight foxing to the preliminaries and edges of the textblock. Light toning to the text. The white lettering on the binding has faded somewhat, and there is minor loss to the extremities of the spine and bumping to the corners of the boards. Black cloth with white lettering. (Barron Horror Literature 3-43 | Bleiler Checklist of Fantastic Literature p. 66 | Bleiler Guide to Supernatural Fiction 314). Very Good binding.
