Title page continued: "arranged in so clear and concise a manner, that the most ignorant may with ease, by referring to it, execute bonds, leases, deeds, indentures, notes, articles, of agreement, &c. without application to an attorney Gentleman of the Bar . . . And to be had of Shaeffer and Maund, Baltimore." iv, 91 p.: forms; 18 cm. Original calf spine with plain brown paper over boards. Early American Imprints (Shaw & Shoemaker), 49395. The printer, Peter Hardt, was active as a printer in both English and German in York, Pa., in the late 1810s and was briefly the owner of the York Recorder (1818-1819). Illustrating the evolution in papermaking at this time, in printing this book he was using paper from multiple sources, some signatures printed on laid paper and others on wove. A scarce and interesting example of printing in York, Pa. in the early 19th century. In Very Good+ Condition: boards are very rubbed and slightly soiled; ink marks on title page; creasing to some upper page corners; pages are browning, but clean and tight.
