About This Item

New York: Norman Hackett / Edward Van Winkle, 1905. #470 of 500 copies 17.7 cm x 13.3 cm, flexible leather boards, silk moire endpapers, top edge gilt, fore-edge untrimmed, pp. xv, 45; frontispiece portrait. Colophon states "Arranged by E.V.W. at the Press of Orion." Published posthumously. Bachman was born in East Tennessee in 1848. At an early age he enlisted in the Confederate Army. After the war he studied law at Columbia. Later he lived in Fresno, California. He was a prolific poet, published exclusively in newspapers. This volume includes a 2 pp. essay, "What it Means to Have Been a Soldier in the Civil War", and the lyrics to the "Marching Song" of the Theta Delta Chi Fraternity. Some gutters a bit split, chipped at spine ends, moderate wear to coners, else a very good copy..
