Printed and published at The Golden Cockerel Press, Waltham St. Lawrence, 1925. Book. Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. First edition, limited to 750 numbered copies printed on hand-made paper (this being #603). Small 4to. 42pp. Cream buckram lettered in gold at the spine. Fore- and bottom edges untrimmed. With eighteen sensual wood engravings and vignettes by Eric Gill, his first major work for the Golden Cockerel Press, his earliest attempt to illustrate a biblical narrative. Cloth a little marked and soiled in places. Free endpapers browned, and with some occasional unsightly spotting to the leaf margins, although no text or engravings are impacted. Quite a crisp and bright copy of this equally uncommon and handsome production. Lacking the fugitive dust wrapper..

Fantasy Press, Oxford, 1954. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. First Edition, second issue (incorporating a single minor textual correction to the poem 'Tamer and Hawk' a 't' added to the end of 'though' in the first line). Slim 8vo. 44pp. Yellow cloth lettered and ruled in red at the upper board. Cloth a little marked and handled. Endpapers really quite browned, yet otherwise extremely fresh internally. Twenty-five poems, the author's first substantial book (and the first hardcover publication issued by the Fantasy Press). The first and second states comprised only 305 copies in total and can be differentiated only by the textual correction (the publisher Oscar Mellor believed the two states could be identified by the slightly different shade of yellow cloth they were bound in, but Gunn's bibliographer Jack Hagstrom has suggested that this is probably not the case). No dust wrapper, as issued..

New York, Grove Press, 2022, trade paperback, 272 pp, Advance Uncorrected Proof (ARC), New. Straight, tight and clean with no wear or markings in bright, pictorial card covers, no dustjacket as issued. The pieces in this collection, written between 1956 and 1961 and including short fiction, a radio play, and a stunning early novel, offer startling insights into Cohens imagination and creative process. Cohen explores themes that would permeate his later work, from shame and unworthiness to sexual desire in all its sacred and profane dimensions to longing, whether for love, family, freedom, or transcendence. Trumansburg, NY: Out of Step Press. Fine with no dust jacket. 2016. Numbered Edition; First Printing. Pamphlet. The author's non-linear poem about the billeting of soldiers in civilian homes in wartime. Copy 89 of a limited edition of 250. Folded into the form of a letter, the work was letterpress printed in wraps of handmade "combat paper" made from military uniforms. The author says: "Some time ago-maybe a year, maybe two? I had a conversation with some of my Combat Paper brothers (well, the kids call them their combat paper uncles, so it follows…) that led to me writing the poem "Quartering." Which was informed by them, of course, and by all the rooms I'm in, and by imagining what is really required of all the caregivers I love. It's a thought experiment: if we tore down the barracks at military hospitals and offered incentives for Americans in the surrounding neighborhoods to quarter injured service members, what would the honest instructions… Read More
